What is Wrong Today
As toddlers; we were curious, brave, self-loving, intuitive, eager to explore, try new things, not afraid to fail. By the time turn one year old, we have been told “no” around 400 times a day! (UCLA Survey). We have anywhere from 12,000 to 60,000 thoughts in one day and according to many researches 80% of our thoughts are negative. Accumulate that through our growing years and we will develop fear to do what speaks to us the most, self-doubt sets in and we worry about what could go wrong instead of focusing on what could go right.
Over the years we become social norms, too fearful to be different, too stuck to try something new, simply living low. Self-confidence plummets, self-worth and self-esteem struggles. This affects our everyday of struggles from poor relationships and job we don’t love to negative body image, drug and alcohol abuse and a total miscommunication between mind, body and spirit.
According to Smollak (2011), 40 to 60 percent of elementary school girls (ages 6-12) are concerned about their weight and becoming too fat. Approximately 7 in 10 women and girls report a decline in body confidence and increases in beauty and appearance anxiety, which they say is driven by the pressure of perfection from media and advertising unrealistic standards of beauty. 9 out of 10 women say they will actually not eat and risk putting their health at stake when they feel bad about their body image. 7 in 10 girls said they’re more likely to be less assertive in their decisions when they are feeling insecure.
Diets and weight loss strategies are a 60-billion-dollar business. 95% of diets fail in long term weight loss. 50 percent of teens use unhealthy weight control behaviors such as skipping meals, fasting and taking laxatives. Binge eating is a direct cause from rigid rules around food and there would be no such thing as emotional eating if people ate what they want when they want it.
In one study of ultra-orthodox and Syrian Jewish communities in Brooklyn New York, 1 out of 19 girls was diagnosed with an eating disorder, which is a rate about 50% higher than the general U.S. population (Sacker, 1996).
Conscious Empowerment
Intensati is a consciously empowered movement practice to become a conscious co-creator of out reality. It is a unique mixture of using our focus for positive affirming thoughts, langauge for empowering words, and physiology to move our bodies in feelings of greatness. This creates an experience of confidence and success in the moment, leaving behind negative self-talk, that inner dialogue we have with ourselves that limits our ability to believe in ourselves and our capabilities, causing self doubt and feeling stuck. Which feeling would you like to embody to create your success?
Neuroscience has shown whatever we focus on shapes our brain, therefore our behavior and lifes outcome. Practicing affirming thoughts allows the cerebellum to go into instinctive mode creating a new memory, that informs us what to do next. While we are all born with a confidence framework, it deteriorates after some time, However, we can slow it significantly or even halt the deterioration by choosing our thoughts words and actions consciously and meaningfully. Therefor confidence, bravery, excellence and success is a choice. Our choice matters.
